Herschel T. Hamner, Jr., recently retired as a Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court Judge.  Judge Hamner was elected to the bench in 1994 where he served for 16 years, presiding over domestic relations cases.  Prior to his service on the bench, Judge Hamner practiced for 20 years primarily as a civil defense attorney in the state and federal courts of Alabama.  During his career, Judge Hamner has served as chairman of the Alabama Advisory Committee on Access Visitation and as a member of the Alabama Model Code Committee on Domestic Violence.  He has also been a guest lecturer at seminars conducted by the Family Law Section of the Alabama Bar and Alabama Bar Institute for Continuing Legal Education, as well as a guest lecturer at the University of Alabama Law School, University of Alabama Department of Family Studies, the School of Social Work, and Alabama Probate Judges seminars.  Judge Hamner graduated from Birmingham-Southern College, B.A., History/Political Science, cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, 1971 and the University of Alabama School of Law, in 1974.

Judge Hamner has been a member of the Alabama Circuit Judges Association, the Alabama Juvenile Judges Association, the Alabama Bar Association and the Tuscaloosa County Bar Association.  Judge Hamner chairs the firm’s Arbitration, Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution Section and practices in the areas of domestic relations and general civil litigation.

Judge Hamner and his wife Beth are members of Christ Episcopal Church in Tuscaloosa.
